Higher, Higher

Higher, higher, it's rising higher
in the sky
Higher, higher, and I am hiding
from the light,
waiting for the night

purple misty forest
croaking frogs and chirping toads
i've swam a hundred miles
and crossed a thousand roads

red earth in the desert
cactus blossom glaring pink
somewhere's a message in a flask
signed with blood for ink

I ate apples off the ground
From beneath a drooping tree
and wondered if right here on earth
is where heaven's supposed to be?

Sang inside an empty tomb
And kneeled on top a hill
And stabbed my heart a thousand times
But never quite could kill
