Autumn People Have Arrived

the autumn people have arrived
witches elves and ghosts
they have pointy hats and homemade crowns
and homemade boots and coats

poems are chiseled into trees
there's hidden treasures up and down
riddles written down on leaves
lying on the ground

There they go then disappear
but lurking always somewhere near
there they go, see them fly
off into the midnight sky

the autumn people have arrived
with spell books in their hands
they come from near and far away
from all the ancient lands

How lovely are October days
when autumn folks arrive
they cast a magic spell
and certain spirits come alive

Will I Get to Heaven?

Worked for a humble wage
On lowly ground I've stood
i read that this was wise
and was told that this was good
But still I have a longing
For treasures to be won
Will I get to heaven?
When this life is done

Tommy, Dick, and Jane
Tell me I have done my best
But they don't know the truth
how dare they so suggest
I could have done much more
I could have been someone
Will I get to heaven?
When this life is done

There's no one here to blame
Just me and the setting sun
Will I get to heaven?
When this life is done

Dear My Dear

dear my dear don't wait for me
turn off the light can't we agree?
i'm staying out until the dawn
out in the night where i belong

dear my dear i have my cape
my mittens, hat my scarf, don't wait!
i'll be all bundled safe and warm
around my neck a lucky charm

dear oh dear i've lost my way
can't find my home i'll have to stay
I curse the places I have been
the road is dark the path is dim

dear oh dear where is the dawn
brighten where I once went wrong
i'm searching for the narrow track
that leads the way to take me back

dear oh dear i've lost my way
can't find my home i'll have to stay
I curse the places I have been
the road is dark the path is dim

Dear oh dear come look for me
i need your helpi cannot see
Please take your mittens hat and cape
Please don’t delay please do not wait

Vignette

smoke from the chimneys
i can see my breath
there's more night than day
but it's not winter yet
the music box plays
a vanishing musette
the birds are gone
and snow a constant threat
the gardens the houses all
are monochrome
and there's a sense in the air
it's time to be alone

i turn on the radio
to hear the whining buzz
of a voice through the ether
through the static and the fuzz
they're pleading with me
to call into their show
I wish that I could
But have got to go
farewell for a while
it's time to hibernate
and the duties surrounding
will all just have to wait

I’ll Find You

I'm searching high
and searching low
i'll find it somehow
in some place that i'll go

I'm not quite sure where
But I'll know when i see
This thing that I seek
standing in front of me

come out come out wherever you are
all this sweet talking I do
see here
THERE'S NOTHING TO HIDE BEHIND
I'll find you

Where to find true love?
Oh, where could it be?
Maybe it's out there
A looking for me ?

In the darkness and fog
it can be tough to find
But I'll know when I see
Like the stars have aligned

Bridge:

I'll find it someday
This I surely know
My heart's being lead
Everywhere that I go

And every wrong turn
That I ever make
Just means that I'm closer
To my lovin fate!

In the Field

I don't think about it
But since you've asked me to I
I don't think about it,
That's all i have to say
Way out in the field
I till the soil and plant the seed
watch it all turn green
out of dust and decay

Sometimes when the sky
gets twisted and mean
I'm tempted to think
of all the bad I've ever seen

But I try not to think about it
But since you've asked me to i'm
starting to think about it and
it's making me feel sad
out in the field
i like to do my work and
when the day is done
i never feel too bad

way out by the river
i watch the gently flowing stream
and then i think about it
as if it were a dream

i don't want to talk about it
so there, my lips forever sealed
i'm done hearing all about it
and going back out to the field

Giants

The prairie grass waves slow
Like a peaceful sea
It’s not wicked like the water
With its deep dark mystery

Slowly I keep going
Into the sunset land
The wind it tries to speak to me
Will I ever understand?

I listen to the wolves
Howling in the night
I want to join their song
And think that I just might

I’m pushing to move west
And hope I do get there
There are giants in the earth
And giants in the air

Tempest

into the cellar
dusty bottles of wine
a dark cloud spinning
a wicked design

coming for the house
and coming for the crops
all of the heavens
tied into knots

the green rolling fields
once seemed so at peace
but now the earth and the sky
have turned into a beast

barbed wire fence
coming undone
a spiral of steel thorns
Against a cold dying sun

I want to run for the hills
but I know I gotta stay
There's nothing i can do
Cuz it's coming this way

little eyes peering out
from a cracked open door
ready to sail through the skies
with their hope as an oar

I want to run for the hills
but I know I gotta stay
There's nothing i can do
Cuz it's coming this way
