Pipes

through gleaming teeth
came a mutter came a curse
a wicked little spell
from a wicked book of verse

But from the same smile
such joy has been told
these mighty pipes
ringing both hot and cold

a great organ in a church
cobwebs on the keys
echoes in the pipes
a thousand memories

this great and mighty king
powerful and bold
whimpers if you let it
blowing both hot and cold

warm your frozen fingers
or cool the porridge in your bowl
from the same humble breath
blowing both hot and cold
