Welcome to Tuesday Tunesday No. 05. I figure that it would be a great time to post a song about the summer just a few days after the biggest blizzard we’ve had in years (Duluth was just dumped with almost two feet of snow). Today’s song was written and recorded into my digital voice recorder two summers ago. I obviously wrote it when I was in a real pathetic state of mind. It belongs on my never-to-be-released album “Songs of Self-Loathing.”
The summer belongs
To somebody else
To all the pretty girls
But never myself
The summer belongs
To all the handsome guys
Swimming in the lake
Beneath the sunny skies
I’m sitting here on my bed
Lots of thoughts in my head
I’d like to go out
but I’m so full of doubt
So I’ll just here instead
The summer belongs
To people who smile
Who wear pretty clothes
And have some sense of style
The summer belongs
To those who have friends
Who go to the beach
Where fun never ends
I’m sitting here at my desk
Thinking I should get dressed
I’d like to go out
but I’m so full of doubt
So I just sit here depressed
The summer belongs
To people with cars
Who drive to the country
To look at the stars
The summer belongs
To people who drink
Who numb up their brains
So they don’t have to think
I’m sitting here on the floor
Will I walk out that door?
I’d like to go out
but I’m so full of doubt
I never have fun anymore
Summer don’t belong
To every single one
And surely not to those
Who can’t wait til it is done
